With a name like Island Lake, you would expect just that — an island and a lake. And that’s what area residents created in the late 1920s. From farm fields, a gravel pit and Mutton Creek, in a place where there was neither an island nor a lake, Island Lake was born by damming the creek. Today, the village is home to just over 8,000 residents and hosts events like the Island Lakefest at the end of July and a summer concert series — perfect for reconnecting with all the things that make summer memorable. They also have one of the best fireworks shows in the area.
Island Lake is also the best place around to catch some beach volleyball at Sideouts Sports Tavern. Grab a bite to eat. Watch the game. Listen to some great bands. And find out why Sideouts was named the Best Outdoor Eatery and Sports Bar.
