Drive-in theaters were all the rate in the 1950's. They offered a casual movie going experience where you could pull your Thunderbird up, hook the speakers to your car and enjoy the latest flick. McHenry was right on trend by adding the Skyline Theater in July of 1951. In the late 1950's there were about 4,000 drive-in's and today there are only about 400. Fortunately, the McHenry Outdoor Theater is one of those 400 still in operation opening each Spring through late Fall. Each night there are two feature films ranging from the latest hits to old time classics.
